We're around 93 students having a field trip in Makro Makati. In order to go to the store, we need to go to a walkalator. Everything was going smoothly, then as we're about to step out of the walkalator we saw people blocking the step out of the walkalator. So what we did we walked backwards, just kept walking until we had a space we could step on once we got out of the walkalator.

TERMS
JIT: Just in time

MAKRO

Makro has a JIT policy. Drag and drop/ click
2. Accurate, has less than 1% error
3. Fast Recording

OMR- Optical Mark Reader
Features
1. Shade circles
2. Fast Recording

DRE vs. OMR
Disadvanteges:

Accuracy
When it comes to accuracy, DRE will win. It has less than 1% error rate compared to the 1% error rate of OMR. Yes, it has a little difference, but due to the large number of voters, that 1% will have a great impact.

Reliability
DRE cannot be easily cheated. It has a good encryption that even the person who made the algorithm cannot decrypt it. The data is stored automatically upon input. As for OMR, it can be easily cheated. Once you've submitted your ballot, it's not automatically ready by the machine. It will stay there until the voting ends, then your vote will be entered to the machine. Your votes can be changed since it's only shaded by a pencil.

Speed
In terms of computation, DRE and OMR has the same speed. However in terms of the number of voters, OMR is more favorable. DRE can accomodate one person at a time, while OMR can accomodate as much people as they permit since they will only need a place and a pencil to vote.

My Verdict:
I would go for OMR, since DRE cannot accommodate large number of people it's not practical to use it unless the government would provide lots of DRE in different voting places. I mean LOTS which is quite costly plus the maintenance of the machines. Since we can't afford it, the government would just place limited DRE devices resulting to a very very slow vote. What's the difference of placing DRE for accurate and fast counting of result but slow voting to a manual computing but fast vote. The time they would finish will most likely be the same. So I suggest to put OMR instead, fast voting, fast count, more accurate than manual, probably more faster than DRE.

OMR Reader

IT Consultant

Sir Oli asked us to think question on how to solve a company's problem. Each managers have their own responsibilities.

Executive:
These are the people like CEOs, presidents and the like. Yes, they don't have much work. Just sit in the offices, and talk to people about the progress from time to time. However, people doesn't see their real job. Their real work is done around once or twice a year. Where they plan on annual progress of the company or the direction of the company.

Middle:
Middle management is the middle class of managers. Their job is to plan and manage the resources of the company and make the most out of them. Just like executive management, they plan for the future and not for the present.

Operational:

Operational management involves work regarding the management of the day's outcome. They make sure that their team meets the requirement or the expected outcome for the day. I've noticed that the job offers available for IT/IS professionals should be able to work as a team. Only a number of job offers would allow you to work independently. In addition, there are job offers which requires you to work on a flexible time, meaning you'll be working with different time shifts, others requires you to work on a tight schedule and you should submit your project on or before the deadline, while some allows you to work wherever and whenever you wish. Overall, people who are good at problem solving would likely be hired for the job.

As for the technical skills, IT/IS professionals should not only have skills in just one programming language. Maximizing the technology today. I for one didn't know the power of google, until Mr. Oliver Malabanan introduced us its features. So whatever you see here, I learned from him.

Okay, let's see what google offers.

1. Google offers mail services. Storing up to 6772 MB, at the same time, google gives you the feature to chat with your friends.

2. Google uses label system instead of the folder system. Since google believes that a certain mail cannot be organized well with the folder system because a certain mail consists of more than one category.

3. Google has a calendar feature where in you can update your calendar according to your schedule and allow it to share with the world or to your chosen friends. Aside from that, google will send you SMS message moments prior the event to remind you of your plans.

4. Google document allows you to create documents, or power point presentation using the net with just an Internet connection, even without the required software. Plus it allows you to collaborate documents with others, allowing you to edit the same document from other computers. Google also allows you to SIMULTANEOUSLY edit the same document at the same time or you have the option to allow people to view the document without the privilege of editing it. It also allows you to automatically publish it to your blog once you've completed your document.

5. Ever done a research, then saving it to bookmarks for future use? Then eventually you used a new computer and can't get that bookmark since it's saved on the other computer? Well google introduces you the google notebook. Where in you can store websites and categorize them using the label feature. Aside from that, google notebook allows you to share your links to your friends. The links are saved directly to your gmail account so you can access them whenever you change computer when researching.

Note: I wasn't able to put pictures of step by step procedures of these features since it will be more complicated if it's all pictures. Sorry though, but if you have any questions, just comment here and I'll reply as soon as I can.

The gmail logo is property of google and I don't claim any intellectual rights to it.

You need a gmail account in order to access these features. To create an account please go to www.gmail.com
